Cyberpunk Mod - Update 10/24 - New Animation

Follow us on ModDB!

10/24 Update -
I've recently started doing some animations myself while I search for an animator for the project. One of the goals I have is to make the bar scene shown in the video before a bit more interesting, it needed some actual drink pouring to spruce it up!

This is my second attempt at animation - but probably one I will actually use for the Cyberpunk mod - I tried something new here and used props, which I worked up with the character attach modifier and trackview.

This one took me about 3-4 hours. Excuse the choppiness - Fraps was hiccuping very bad. Hopefully later I will be able to generate custom pfx for the pours, and use some kind of water shader for the drinks.

I'll continue to make some more like this, I am having fun with it, and I am hoping that the mod will have some more complex animations in the near future.

We continue to push forward on the mod at a good clip. Behind the scenes right now we are working on the buildings that will set-up the first scene of the mod.

Cheers,
Jesse

Ok so maybe some of you have seen jjjapan's Cyberpunk Noir city environment

Recently we have started collaborating to make a mod based on some of my designs and her art style. We are looking to do an FPS/Adventure hybrid with the CryEngine2, and so far it is looking very promising. We want to provide more interactive and possibly emotional experiences for the player that (for me at least) are reminiscent of older adventure games.

The influences we're drawing from are (in no particular order) Blade Runner (both the movie and the Westwood PC game), Deus Ex, Neocron, Tarantino dialog/action, and Cowboy Bebop.

It looks like an awesome project! I like the influences and style. It's going to have a plotline and all that? Are you going to make it like Deus Ex (or Fallout, for example) - y'know, where you can shoot someone if you want, but you can also solve your problem otherwise? Or is it too soon to tell? Smile

I wish you all the best - don't screw it up. Wink

Crov, the answers to all your questions are essentially "Yes". I really like the idea of choices in the game. It will be more close to Deus Ex than fallout as it will not be an open world - but there are no plans for a skill or inventory system as of yet either.

This might change if the game expands beyond this "pilot" episode. We are designing it to content can be added episodically in different districts of the city.

Well I was finally able to get my proxy setup, so now I can see youtube. I'm impressed with the amount of views so far! I am currently in Shanghai attending GDC China, but I hope to put another update out by the end of next week.

We are working very hard at setting up the new environment for the mod. The level playground that was released was jjjapan's project, but I am using it to test AI and design things (like the dialog video). The level space for the first half of the mod has been made with primatives in Max, and jjjapan is hard at work at modeling the insides of different buildings that will be used in the level, such as a convenience store and a bar.

I've seen some screenshots of the interiors recently and they are very good. I'm looking forward to being able to share them with all of you.

From the design side, I am constantly updating the design document (even now I am sitting in a youth hostel with google docs open) with new concepts and ideas that can be achived with Sandbox 2. mostly through FG, minimal coding at this point. I'm confident that this mod will deliver not only great atmosphere and storytelling, but innovative ways to achieve your goals that go beyond ordinary shooter methods. Some of this I'll demonstrate in future videos, but some I will keep a suprise to find out for yourselves during the game Smile

Small update - custom animation video, one of my first attempts at this, but it's an example of one of the custom animations you can expect to see in the mod.

It's a very good start, but at the moment he looks too robotic. Try and get the rest of the person moving at the same time as the attention-drawing motions.

I think I see what you mean. The torso and the legs are moving very little- and I dont think I touched the shoulders at all.

I was trying to go for a good bartender that knew what he was doing and could make shots very quickly. But there is a difference between quick, efficient, movement and robotic movement.

This is a completely new field for me - and while it's fun - it's very frustrating to look at it in Max/Game and say "ok I know something doesnt look right, but I can't quite figure out what!" *sigh* well at least I'm not hoping to get an animation job Smile

Thanks for the advice, I'll patch it up for the upcoming trailer.
