I will be crawling prone from one side of the level to the other.

That is my praise for this work. Big Grin

Haha, thanks Big Grin

Hawkeye has outdone himself once again, and provided me with 4 new TODs. I won't post shots of them all, since they're similar, ranging only in slight colors and shades. But I will post my favorite (slightly edited the brightness of the shadows). Now all that's left is to tweak the TOD to include the sunset and sunrise and night, and it's perfect!

Tweaked the rocks mid-way through the screenshot taking. Also, new leaves!

Best leaves I could get.

PS: Sorry for the edit, Hawk. The shadows were pure black and it made the level unbelievably difficult to navigate. lol

Haven't tried yet, about to now.

Hoping it goes better this time, it took me like an hour to get those 3 pics.

BTW what are you PC stats and resolution. Will the system in my SIG give me good FPS in you level.
And how does it do on a ~22" screen, My old 17" died on me today

I've got,

AMD Athlon64 x2 4200+ (2.2GHz)
2GB DDR2 667 RAM
8800GT 512MB
17inch Samsung LCD Monitor (1280x1024)

You don't really have a chance at playing it all at very high on a 22inch screen with *playable* frames. But, if you change Particles, Objects and Shadows to medium, you should have a pretty playable game. Somewhere between 20 - 30 FPS I'd say (according to my 8800GT anyway - I'm assuming your performance will be similar).

I'm still trying to push up the frames as high as possible. That may even lead to some slight pop-in, but if you're really annoyed with pop-in, then just use a config.

That is a relief. I know now it was made on a system close to mine in performance.

How many polygons are on screen in your level?

...

On Very High, over 4,000,000.

Yeah. There's that much detail.

Here's a quick FAQ.

When is the release date?

I haven't been addressing the question because I simply don't know. I'd like to say "soon", but I'm subject to change my mind quite often when it comes to personal projects.

But if you must have a date, it will be released FOR SURE sometime in July/August, when I'll have concrete resources to base my project on.

Why this July? That's far away! Crying

I just said it above - I'll have more resources at my disposal. I can go out and check out the forest and map accordingly.

This might change.

Will you release a beta?

I might.

I'm giving you a little hope here. I might release it before the target date, as a "Version 0.5". Then release an updated version, say, "Version 1.0".

I might keep to the Version scheme, and release new versions every now and then, hopefully improving each time.

That's awesome, when can I expect the new versions?

When can you expect them?

Well, never, since I haven't guaranteed them Tongue

That said, I'll hopefully be able to release something every few months.

In case you don't now. There is no way of comparing in February!
Unless you live in New Zealand there are no temperate forests in leaf right now.

I'd imagine so, especially at that resolution. The GTX280 is really a 1900*1200 card.

Not that obvious, according to tomshardware it runs Crysis at 1280x1024 with 4x AA / Very High with 25 FPS. A good FPS is above 30, imagina at 1900x1200!

I personally don't see the need for 4x AA at that resolution, so with No AA I'm sure you'll get 30 FPS or so. I'd love to try it out sometime.

On a GTX280, AA has nearly no performance drop. If I enable 4x AA, I get 2 (!) fps less than without in the crysis gpu benchmark. (32/30 at 1280x1024)

the GTX280 is a really fast card, but crysis is a game which needs much more power.

Edit: Wow, Xzero, your new screens are STUNNING! Happy

we are yet to see a card that will run crysis at it max settings with 16qxAA. Imagina 16x AA with that ultra texture mode with a ultra high config and a particle mod that i´ve seen here in the foruns, in a 50 inch 1900x1200.
