Crysis Patch 1.1/1.2/1.21 - Known Issues & Workarounds! *Update 2*

Greetings Community!

The following list includes the currently known workarounds for issues that you might encounter while patching Crysis and/or playing it afterwards. This list is Work In Progress and will get updated constantly.

Before following one of the workarounds further below please be sure to backup all your modified files and levels!

CRYSIS - PATCH INSTALLATION ISSUES (DVD & EA Download Manager)

1. Error 1334
  • Don’t uncheck Punkbuster installation – it is required for the patch.
  • Manually revert back to original files:
..\Crysis\Game\Localized: different language .pak file (use the standard langauge .pak you have when installing the game)
..\Crysis\Game\Localized\Video: put back all videos/trailers that have been removed before
..\Crysis\Game\Config\: modified .cfg files (use the standard .cfg files delivered with Crysis)
..\Crysis\Game\Config\CVarGroups: modified .cfg files (use the standard .cfg files delivered with Crysis)
..\Crysis\Game\: modified .pak files (use the standard .pak files delivered with Crysis)
  • Repair Crysis installation (be sure to backup modified files before!)

2. "Insert Disk: Crysis DVD" error
  • Turn off virtual tools such as Daemon Tools
  • Repair Crysis installation
  • Re-Install Crysis

3. “Patch package could not be opened” error
  • Verify you have downloaded an official/non corrupt version of the Patch 1.1/1.2
  • Right click on Patch .exe file and execute as Administrator

4. “Upgrade cannot be installed” error
  • Verify you have downloaded an official/non corrupt version of the Patch 1.1 or Patch 1.2.
  • Be sure to have Crysis properly installed with administrator rights.
  • Right click on Patch .exe file and execute as Administrator.

5. “File *** could not be found”
  • No workaround available at the moment.

6. "Application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect." (kindly found by MintSauce)
  1. Go to Microsoft Support and download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility.

  2. Install the utility

  3. Run it via the Start menu, should list itself as above.

  4. A list of installed programs should appear. Search out the C++ redistributable entry, and click on the button to uninstall it.

  5. After a successful uninstall, open up the Crysis DVD under the VS Redist folder and extract vcredist_x86.exe to the desktop. An aptly named folder should be there.

  6. Right click the .msi file and install.

  7. This should finally install properly and you're ready to run Crysis.

  8. Some possibly important settings:

From previous attempts to get Crysis running, following changes to the Crysis shortcut should be applied:

    1) Compatibility is set to Win XP
    2) User level is set to administrator.

  9. AVG might also be responsible for problems during installing and running Crysis. AVG's Resident Shield Protection should probably be off prior to the install.

7. "Conflict with Emulation Software Detected"
  • Open the Game DVD in your drive (DVD) or go to the directory where your installation is located (EA Download Manager).
  • Open the Binari~1.cab (Bin32) or Binari~2.cab (Bin64) with WinRar or a similar pack-program and copy the Crysis.exe file.
  • Place it into your installation directory of Crysis\Bin32 or Crysis\Bin64 and replace the existing .exe file.

8. Error 1635

CRYSIS - GENERAL ISSUES

1. Singleplayer save games broken
  • Be sure to not use a Crysis crack since this is definitely not support and causes issues with your save games.
  • Please post your dxdiag and game.log (with log_verbosity 8) in this thread.

2. 64-bit Crysis.exe & Editor.exe cannot be execute anymore
  • Try to uninstall NVidia’s Network Access Manager.

3. Savegames gone after applying Patch 1.2
  • Crysis loads up the default profile. Be sure you the save files located at "My Documents\My Games\Crysis\SaveGames".
  • If this is the case start Crysis and load your old profile, then all your personal settings should be back.

4. Crysis doesn't start anymore after applying patch 1.21
  1. Solution 1: Change the shortcut link
    * Right click on the Crysis shortcut on your desktop -> Properties
    * If your "Start in" path is "C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis\Bin32", try replacing it with "C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis".
    * Then launch it like normal and see if it starts up.
    * If you are not going through a shortcut, but are instead simply running the Crysis.exe file in either the Bin32 or Bin64 folders, please try creating a shortcut to the EXE and set the "Start in" folder using the steps in the paragraph above.

  2. Solution 2: Remove old profiles
    * First, navigate to your Crysis profiles folder (XP = "My Documents\My Games\Crysis\Profiles\"; Vista = "[User]\Documents\My Games\Crysis\Profiles")
    * Inside you will find a folder for each profile you have created ingame.
    * Move all these folders to a different location where they are safe.
    * Then launch the game again. (to get back your save games from other profiles, just copy the save games folder from your old profile into the new profile folder)

5. Scaleform/Flash Errors cause Crysis to stop working

CRYSIS EDITOR - ISSUES
If there are any new crashes or other weird problems occurring please post them here.

Please let us know if you find further workarounds or if there are additional problems. Smile

regards,
-alex

RE: Crysis Patch 1.1 - Installation Problems? Read Here!

I always say, create good error messages, and you have a few problems less Tongue
Didnt have any problems installing thou he he, but my essential files are still original. Daemon tools never made problems.

But in game i have a few problems joining Servers. I get Autentification failed (2) whatever that means, after some seconds/minutes of playing. The chat was full of people waiting for servers and of the few that were updated, was almost nobody playing. I joined a few that had the best ping, but no players and thought fine im there lol. While i was in, i saw other players joining and joining but eventually i was kicked out. I joined back in and still people were joining but the server didnt fill up. One server down the list didnt kick me out finally. Sure later theres gona be more servers with better ping i can join hopefully.
Isnt it a shame for all the empty servers i have seen?

EDIT: to the poster above, do you have XP or Vista? Do you have 32bit or 64bit? Do you have the downloaded version or disk version? You need to include more

@Eshme: The (2) behind that means that there is a problem with PunkBuster. Be sure to have it enabled and also up-to-date (check out http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=pbsetup.php to get the setup.exe for PB Happy

I am going to copy&paste what I said in incrysis, because I think it may be the source of the problem for many people.

quote:

Hi Guys, I just installed the patch on Vista, obviously using an account with privileges and it worked fine.

You may want to check if you have a downloaded installation of crysis from ea store and if it is in the same location from where you installed the game. The error could be caused because the patch cannot find the original installation in there. If you installed from a CD, perhaps your CD drive has another letter different than when you installed the game.

I wouldn't blame EA or Crytek for this errors, it only happens to some people (like it is stated here) it is Microsoft and their MSI technology what is creating this problems.

If I am right about the cause of the problem, you may have to reinstall the game and then apply the patch without moving the installation sources.

I downloaded the patch from the EA ftp and it weights 145.904.872, check to be sure you don't have a non-official installer.

I downloaded the patch from FileFront (139mb). I have the same problem as
above. The patch seems to take its old sweet time intrying to install.
I am getting the same error message as everyone else, trying to locate
a file on the DVD. BUT since I had that skuffing/clicking sound on my drive,
and with it taking 10 min to see an actual DVD, then another 10 min. for it
to see that the DVD was in fact the Crysis disk, I think my drive is just not
reading the disk AGAIN to locate that file. OR maybe that file I DLed is not BIG
enough. If the EA file is 145+mb, its possible that the one I got was premature.

Downloading the patch now....

1) Are current save games compatible?
2) Will mods have to be reinstalled (specifically Z_paks)?
3) Is there a general list of which files in the GamePak were altered? Or has anyone extracted them from the patch itself and taken a look?

I can't install the patch, I get this message: "Please Insert the Disc: Crysis DVD".
The DVD is in the drive, and it still does'nt recognize the game! Any workaround?

Edit : I use XP 64bit

That's what I'm doing...good way to reset my mods, too. I was concerned about the update causing bugs. If a fresh install doesn't fix this, then the patch is broken.

Just out of curiosity, is anyone else using the Special Edition DVD while getting this error??

WTF is wrong with this patch ??

this is the strangest "bug" i had so far,

i dowloaded the patch and started to install it, all works fine till i get to "validating data"
- now suddenly my harddisk makes rly bad sounding noices (like it would explode or something) the installation then freezes.

im using vista ultimatex64
HD = WD Raptor

- all other files on the HD are working fine
- redownloaded the patch already twice (from diferent sources) = no change
- S.M.A.R.T tool says my HD is fine
- chkdsk finds no errors
- WD-tools find no errors or damage on HD
